Milberger's landscaping and nursery business, is situated in downtown Waddington, near the intersection of Highways 2 and 7.

Business is brisk on a balmy Saturday, July 28, at one of the local nurseries and landscape contractor's storefronts.

His staff is busy planting fall shrubs and bushes, the leaves on which are soon to turn shades of gold and yellow.

"We don't get a lot of customers from outside the area. I think the people that are within a radius have probably already bought their summer flowers," said Milberger, a father of two.

The retail business takes up most of the first floor of the building, while the second floor is divided into small apartments and studios.

It's a lifestyle Milberger has chosen, in part, because of the town itself.

"This is a very, very small town. There's just a handful of people. I think it's more of a community," said Milberger.

"There's not a lot to do in the summer. It's pretty quiet. It's a good town."

Milberger owns the business with his wife Jennifer. He started it in 2012 and runs the business full time, taking care of the landscaping and gardens.

Jennifer Milberger keeps the business going, taking care of the business, while David works from home.

They started the business because they felt that Waddington was a good community to grow a business in.

"We really like the small town feel. I think Waddington has a great feel," said David.

"I guess it's the proximity to the city, the small school that we're dealing with. It's really convenient. It's a nice lifestyle."

It's the kind of place Milberger, and her husband, say they're looking for, as they age.

"We're going to be moving around a lot, because we're old," said David.

"You can't stop and live in Waddington, or we'd get cabin fever."

In the spring, the couple will start the process of closing their current Waddington condo. They'll soon be looking for a new place to live.

"We'll probably do some road trips and look for a home and a lifestyle that fits us better," said David.

With a new life in the fall, and a new house to call their own, David and Jennifer say they plan on being a little more active in the community.

Milberger, who used to be a teacher, is teaching one class this year, while David and Jennifer teach a couple of other classes.

"We'll get to know more of the people in the community."

Milberger said while there's an age divide, and that people get to know you when you get to know them, everyone in the community has made her feel very welcome.

It's that kind of small-town feel that Milberger and David are looking for, along with a quiet place to spend their retirement.
